Summary

A technical writer is, essentially, someone who creates documentation that explains the treatment, functions, and/or design of a product in order to help the user best understand the product or service. The documentation could take the form of a website, brochure, magazine, or even a blog post. A technical writer must know their audience well–their knowledge level, expectations, etc.–in order to produce content that is clear and informative and has the right emphasis and tone.

The Red Hat Vertical Solutions Business Unit (BU) team is looking for a Technical Writer to join us in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will assist in the development of marketing and sales enablement materials for Red Hat’s primary vertical solutions – Telecommunications (Telco) and Financial Services. As a Technical Writer, you will work with product marketers and subject matter experts from across the organisation to create a range of content from solution briefs, thought leadership e-books, blog posts, and infographics to web copies and sales battle cards. These assets will be published on www.redhat.com, and our customer and partner portals. As a Technical Writer, you’ll need to be a highly-organized and motivated big-picture thinker with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects at once.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Engage and collaborate with the Vertical Solutions Marketing team and other subject matter experts to write, edit, and ghostwrite content for presentations, webinars, whitepapers, web, and social media
  • Keep informed of new vertical solutions and programs, including product changes, customer use cases, services, and training offerings
  • Effectively manage documentation projects for the Vertical Solutions BU team by collaborating with content development and documentation teams across Red Hat, becoming the expert within the Vertical Solutions BU team

Required Skills

  • 6+ years of experience writing technical content for end users, including reference manuals, user guides, and design specifications
  • Passion for writing great thought leadership content aimed at information technology (IT) and business leaders whether in the form of web copies, e-books, blog posts, or whitepapers
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, motivated, and well-suited to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Excellent leadership skills to establish and maintain communication with subject matter experts and Vertical Solutions BU team members
  • Knowledge of and experience with Linux, Red Hat Middleware, open source software, and other data-centric technologies
  • Familiarity with scripting and programming languages is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, computer science, arts, or languages
